Philosophy of the SRCS Sports Programs

The SRCS Athletic Program is designed to be different from other sports leagues.  At SRCS,  every student who goes out for a team gets the opportunity to be on a team and to learn more about a sport that they might want to pursue in the future.  Above all, the intent of the SRCS Athletic Program is to bring glory to God and to help students to see the importance of playing the game in a way that they can best represent Christ on the field. The mural painted in the SRCS gymnasium (pictured above) is a reminder to us and a witness to others of the foundation upon which our Athletic Program is built  - "Seek ye first the kingdom of God."

Current society teaches us that success comes from being the best, or that success is measured by winning.  At SRCS, we teach what the Bible says, that success comes from giving our best with the talents God has given us and using these talents to glorify and serve Him.

SRCS coaches are required to have a devotion and prayer at each practice and game.  Sports games and practices are limited to Monday through Thursday to allow students to participate in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Although we have fewer practices than other schools, and winning is not our top priority, God has blessed us with many championships.  At SRCS, we strive to put God first in everything we do, including athletics.  The attitudes and actions of SRCS students and coaches on the field provides witness for Christ in hopes that others may come to know Him better.

Mission

Mission Statement:  The purpose of the Athletic Department at Spanish River Christian School is to advance God’s Kingdom through the use of athletics.  A love for God, His word, and His people will be the foundation upon which this department is built.  Excellence as defined by Scripture will be the goal for leadership, coaching, and competition.  Service will be the dominant attitude and prevailing theme as the Athletic Department seeks to honor the Lord through thought, word, and deed.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (F.C.A.) - Middle School Students

F.C.A. is a national organization dedicated to "presenting to coaches and athletes and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and serving Him in the local church and community."

Many F.C.A. activities are student-led.  Students have fun and fellowship playing games and doing sports activities.  Through small groups and Bible study, students and leaders share what God has done in their lives each week.

F.C.A. members go on various mission trips throughout the year (e.g., The Lord's Place and The Caring Kitchen).
